The Recovery Approach Programme
A personalised 1:1 programme for people who aren't prepared to settle for feeling less well than they know they could.
Maybe you're recovering from an injury that never quite resolved.
Maybe you've gradually accumulated several things that don't seem connected.
Maybe you've been given a diagnosis and told to manage it.
Or perhaps you're functioning perfectly well on the surface, but you know you're not feeling, moving, or performing as well as you could.
Whatever brought you here, you're not looking for another way to simply manage it.
You want to feel better. You want more freedom in your body and more of your life back.
Three months of personalised 1:1 support, delivered online or in person

Perhaps it started with one problem.
Your back. Your hip. Your shoulder.
Digestive problems that seemed to come from nowhere.
Fatigue. Poor sleep. Headaches. Stiffness. Pain.
Then gradually, something else appeared.
And then something else.
For some people, one thing is loud while other symptoms sit more in the background.
For others, one problem settles, only for something else to appear.
Or everything settles for a while before flaring up again.
You may have been told each symptom is separate. You may have been given diagnoses, which can be helpful, but they don't always explain why your body has become so much harder to predict.
And you may be very good at coping.
You likely have responsibilities. People rely on you. You're used to solving problems, getting things done and powering through when life is difficult.
You might have a demanding job, a busy family life, or simply a lot going on.
You don't necessarily think of yourself as stressed.
You just adapt and carry on.
Until, gradually, managing your body becomes one more thing you have to manage.
And perhaps you've started wondering:
Why have I suddenly got all these things going on?
Why does something else seem to appear when the last thing has finally settled?
Is this what my body is going to be like from now on?
After more than 20 years of working with people whose bodies no longer seemed to behave as they once did, I've become increasingly interested in a different possibility.
What if your body isn't developing one new problem after another?
What if it's responding to one underlying pattern?
A different way of understanding what's happening
Your body is remarkably adaptable.
It makes changes to help you cope with injury, illness, physical demands, stress, and everything else life throws at you.
Those changes are useful and they're part of how your body helps you keep going.
But sometimes, protective changes don't switch off when they're no longer needed.
Over time, they may affect the way your body moves, functions and responds.
That's why I'm less interested in looking at each symptom in isolation and more interested in the wider picture.
Is your body still responding as though it needs to protect you?
Because sometimes recovery isn't about asking your body to do more or adding more things.
Often, the body doesn't need more to do.
It needs the opportunity to undo.
It may need the opportunity to stop holding tension it no longer needs.
To stop protecting areas that no longer need protecting.
To become more adaptable again.
But undoing what's already there is only part of the picture.
We also want to understand what has been keeping those changes in place, and what your body may need to respond differently in future.
The aim isn't simply to help you feel better today. It's to create the conditions for your body to function with less effort and less need for protection going forward.
What could change?
One client originally came to me because of persistent shoulder pain.
A couple of sessions later, she looked a little confused and said:
"My shoulder's feeling better and I've realised I haven't needed my reflux medication all week."
We hadn't been working specifically on her digestion.
That's one of the reasons I'm so interested in the wider patterns behind symptoms, rather than focusing only on the symptom that's shouting the loudest.
People often tell me they notice a shift quite quickly.
They feel calmer.
Lighter.
More relaxed.
From there, change can look very different from person to person.
It might be less pain, better movement, more energy, better sleep, fewer digestive problems.
Or simply finding themselves thinking about their body much less.
And over time, the changes that matter most are often much more ordinary.
You start making plans without wondering how your body will behave.
You stop calculating whether you'll have enough energy for the week.
You get back to something you've really missed.
A long walk.
Cycling.
Golf.
Sailing.
Gym sessions.
Time with friends and family.
Or simply being able to do something without wondering what you'll have to pay for afterwards.
Because what you really want isn't just fewer symptoms.
You want to stop thinking about your body all the time.
You want to make plans without wondering how you'll feel.
You want more freedom to do the things you enjoy.
You want to feel more like yourself again.
Why a programme rather than individual sessions?
An individual session can be very helpful when there's one specific issue you'd like support with.
The Recovery Approach Programme is for something different.
It's for people who feel there's a bigger picture.
Rather than chasing one symptom after another, we spend three months looking at you as a whole person and the patterns that may be affecting how your body is functioning.
You don't need to know exactly what's wrong before we begin.
You don't need to work out which approach you need.
Working that out together is part of my role.
Having time to work together means we can notice how your body responds, adapt our approach as things change, and focus on what seems most important rather than simply what feels loudest today.
This isn't simply more appointments.
It's a different way of working.
What it's like to work together
We begin with a private consultation, giving me time to understand your story, what's changed over the years, how you've adapted, and what you'd most like life to look like.
From there, our work is personalised around you.
We usually meet every two weeks, although we can adapt the rhythm if another arrangement makes more sense.
You don't need to prepare.
You don't need to become an expert in your own anatomy.
You don't need to follow a generic programme.
You simply need to show up.
This is time set aside for you.
Many of my clients find the sessions deeply relaxing, and often notice that their body feels calmer or different afterwards.
But relaxation isn't the goal in itself.
It's part of creating the conditions in which your body can respond differently, while I pay attention to what's changing and adapt the work accordingly.
Is this programme right for you?
It probably is if:
-
you've gradually developed more than one ongoing or recurring symptom
-
you've tried different approaches but still feel something hasn't been addressed
-
you've started to wonder whether all these things might be connected
-
you're very good at coping, carrying on, and finding a way through, but your body is becoming harder to work around
-
you're looking for a personalised approach rather than another generic plan
-
you're functioning reasonably well, but know you could feel, move, or perform better
-
you're ready to stop simply managing your body and start addressing the bigger picture
You don't have to be falling apart to benefit from this work.
You simply have to know that you want more from your body and your life than you're currently getting.
Want to understand more about how it works?
If you'd like to understand more about the thinking behind The Recovery Approach, I've explained it below.
Why I think symptoms aren't always separate stories
Your body is constantly responding to what's happening around and within you.
After an injury, for example, you may move differently without consciously deciding to. Muscles may become more guarded and other parts of your body may start doing more to help you.
After illness, the body can also change how it responds as it works to keep you going. Sometimes those changes seem to linger, even when the original illness has passed.
And it doesn't always take an injury or illness.
Long periods of pressure, demanding work, poor sleep, emotional strain, or simply being constantly busy can also change the way your body responds.
You might not even think of yourself as stressed. You may simply be very good at getting on with things.
But your body doesn't necessarily make that distinction, it responds to the demands being placed on it.
These changes can be incredibly useful in the short term and they help you cope and keep going.
The difficulty is when they become the body's new normal.
So, different symptoms don't necessarily mean completely unrelated stories.
Sometimes there may be a wider pattern worth looking at.
That's why I'm less interested in chasing the latest symptom and more interested in asking:
What is your body doing?
Why might it be doing it?
And what might become possible if it no longer needed to?
Why three months?
Your body has had time to adapt to whatever has been happening.
Changing those patterns isn't necessarily about finding one more thing to do and hoping it fixes everything.
It takes time to understand your individual situation, see how your body responds, adapt our approach as things change, and give you the opportunity to notice what happens beyond the immediate session.
That's why I work with people over three months rather than simply offering a series of unrelated appointments.
We usually meet roughly every two weeks, although we can adapt the rhythm to suit you.
It's not simply more sessions. It's continuity, personalisation and enough time to work with the bigger picture.
What happens when we work together?
We begin with a private consultation so I can understand your story properly - what's happened, what's changed, what you've tried, how you're functioning now and what you'd most like to be different.
From there, the work is personalised around you.
You don't need to prepare complicated information.
You don't need to follow a demanding programme.
You don't need to become an expert in your own anatomy.
You simply need to show up.
As we work together, I pay attention to what changes, what doesn't, and how your body responds. That allows me to adapt the work rather than simply following a predetermined plan.

If what you've read resonates, the next step is simply a conversation.
We'll talk through what's been happening, what you'd most like to change, and whether The Recovery Approach feels like the right next step for you.
If it is, I'll tell you. And if it isn't, I'll tell you that too.
