The Recovery Approach Programme

A personalised 1:1 programme for people who want more from their body and their life - and aren't ready to accept that things have to stay as they are.

What if you don't have to accept that this is just how your body is now?

Maybe you've noticed your body isn't quite doing what it used to.

Pain. Fatigue. Tension. Digestive problems. Less freedom to do the things you enjoy.

You've probably tried plenty of things to help, but you're not ready to accept that this is simply how things are going to be.

Your body is constantly adapting to what it thinks it needs to deal with. So, what if there's more possibility for change than you've been led to believe?

A gentle, simple approach for people who want more from their body and their life.

Maybe you've been dealing with this for a while

Perhaps there’s one thing that’s loud while others sit more in the background.

Perhaps one thing settled, only for something else to appear.

Perhaps you have several things going on at once - pain, fatigue, digestive problems, tension, sensitivity, or other changes in how your body feels and functions.

Or perhaps the problems come and go. You have good periods where you feel more like yourself, followed by another flare-up that seems to come out of nowhere.

You may even have a diagnosis that explains part of what's happening, but you're still looking for a way to feel better and do more with your life.

There isn't one particular pattern you have to fit.

What many of my clients have in common is that they've already tried a lot, they take their health seriously, and they're not ready to accept that their current limitations are simply how things have to be.

You’ve already tried a lot

You've probably tried to fix the thing that's bothering you.

The exercises, the stretches, the dietary changes.

The medication, the appointments, the research.

Ways to relieve discomfort or stress, or other things you've found online and tried for yourself.

And some of them may have helped, but perhaps you're still not where you want to be. You can function, but you're not completely comfortable.

And that's incredibly frustrating when you're someone who already takes care of yourself and you have things to do.

Because you aren't looking for someone to tell you to eat better and take more exercise, you've probably thought about those things already. You want to understand why your body is still responding this way.

Your body is constantly adapting to what it perceives it needs to deal with

This is something I find fascinating.

Because your body is constantly responding to information.

An injury happens, and the body adapts to protect you. Illness can change how the body responds too.

You repeatedly do something, and the body adapts.

You're under pressure for a long time, and the body adapts.

You worry, anticipate, push through, or feel that you need to stay prepared, and your body responds to that too.

And sometimes the response remains after the original problem has changed.

But often, the information telling your brain that it needs to protect you isn't in the past at all. Because your life might still be giving your brain plenty of information that tells it to stay alert, keep going, be ready, protect. Don't switch off yet.

You may not even feel particularly stressed, you may simply be very capable at coping.

You're busy, you're responsible, you care about people. You have things that need doing, and you get on with them.

But your body is still processing all of that information.

And the resulting adaptations don't necessarily stay in one neat little box. They can affect muscle tension and movement, sensitivity and pain, digestion, energy, immunity, and how comfortable you feel in your body.

Which means you can end up trying to fix each thing separately when they may actually be part of a much bigger picture.

Sometimes the missing piece isn't doing more

This is where I work differently.

I'm not interested in simply asking:

“What can we do with this symptom?”

I'm interested in understanding what your body is responding to, and what information it might need to respond differently.

Because if your brain is constantly receiving information that something needs protecting, it makes sense that the body keeps producing a protective response.

So rather than continually asking your body to override that response, we can work with the communication between the body, brain, and mind.

Through body sensations, proprioceptive information and specific physical input, we can give the brain different information from the body.

And where worries, fears, old beliefs or current pressures are contributing to the sense that something needs protecting, we can also look at how you are perceiving those things.

Not because your problems are imaginary or because everything is “just stress”, but because the way the brain interprets something can influence the response it creates.

And sometimes, when that perception changes, the body doesn't need to work quite so hard to protect you.

Often the body doesn’t need more to do.

It needs the opportunity to undo.

What can change when your body doesn't have to work so hard?

This is where things get really interesting, because the result isn't always limited to the thing you came in with.

One client came to me with back pain, persistent tiredness and digestive problems that meant she was avoiding foods including broccoli.

Within a few weeks, her back pain had gone, she had more energy and she was able to eat more foods again.

She also noticed a completely different response to a difficult person at work. She felt less fearful and more relaxed around them, and described feeling like a stronger person overall.

Another client had been diagnosed with ME/CFS and reactive arthritis, with pain moving through her fingers, arms, legs and knees.

Her pain is now almost non-existent, and her fatigue is much more manageable.

She's returned to Pilates, is painting again, working, and going on holiday without the same fear that she'll spend half of it in bed.

And one gentleman came to me with excruciating knee pain and had been told he would need a hip replacement followed by a knee replacement, which meant a long recovery.

After around half a dozen sessions, his knee pain had completely gone. That was in 2021, and as of 2026, his knee is still pain free.

These are the kinds of changes that remind me why I do this work.

Not because I expect every person to have the same experience, but because sometimes the body is capable of far more change than we've been led to believe.

Imagine not having to think about your body quite so much

Imagine deciding to go to the gym without wondering whether you'll pay for it afterwards.

Going on holiday without worrying about how your body will cope.

Eating without constantly calculating what might upset your digestion.

Getting through a busy day without wondering where your energy has gone.

Doing the things you enjoy without having to negotiate with your body first.

And perhaps simply waking up and feeling more like you again.

That's what I mean when I say I want you to get more from your body and your life.

It's not about creating a perfect body that never hurts, never gets tired and never reacts to anything.

It's about having more freedom, more choice, and more confidence in what your body can do.

This isn't another job for you

One of the things clients often find surprising is how simple the sessions are.

They're gentle and deeply relaxing.

There are pleasant sensations and, often, a feeling of cognitive lightness.

You don't need to spend hours analysing yourself.

You don't need another complicated list of exercises to remember.

We work together to change the communication between your body, brain and mind, and to help your system recognise that it may be able to respond differently.

You don't need to spend hours talking through your past or digging up things you'd rather leave alone. The focus is on what your brain and body are responding to now, and helping them respond differently.

You still get to live your life, work hard if you love your work, care deeply about the people around you.

The aim isn't necessarily to make your life smaller.

It's to help your body cope with your life differently.

Why I work this way

I've spent more than 20 years working with people's bodies, alongside a scientific background that began with a degree in Biology and years working in a corporate scientific environment.

Over time, I've brought together that understanding of the body with the practical approaches and tools I use now, including Bowen and body- and brain-based work.

I'm endlessly curious about how the body works, so I continue to research, learn and refine what I do, always looking for ways to make the work more useful and effective for the people I work with.

Why three months?

An individual session can be very helpful when there's one specific issue you'd like support with.

The Recovery Approach is for something different, it's for people who feel there's a bigger picture.

If your body has been adapting to something for months or years, changing those patterns isn't necessarily about finding one more thing to do and hoping it fixes everything.

Three months gives us enough continuity to understand your situation, see how your body responds, adapt the work as we go, and notice changes beyond what happens in a single session.

It's not simply more appointments. It's continuity, personalisation and time to work with the bigger picture.

This is particularly suited to you if...

You've already tried a lot.

You take responsibility for your health.

You don't want to simply mask a symptom and carry on.

You want to understand what's going on and explore another way of working with your body.

And you're ready for the possibility that the answer might not be another thing you need to do, it might be about helping your body let go of some of the things it's been doing for you.

Ready to explore what could change?

If you’ve been trying to solve the same problem in different ways and your body still isn’t responding the way you’d like, book a conversation with me.

In the program, we usually meet for a 90-minute session roughly every two weeks, either online or in person, but the rhythm can be adjusted if there's a good reason to work more or less frequently.

We'll then work together for 3 months and look at what's happening for you as a whole, rather than treating every symptom as though it exists in isolation.

And we'll work gently, without adding another complicated health project to your already busy life.

When you book a conversation with me, we’ll talk through what’s been happening, what you’ve already tried, and what you’d most like to change, and I’ll tell you whether I think The Recovery Approach could be right for you - or not.
